SONY DYNAMIC DIGITAL SOUND (SDDS)

The SDDS sound system can only be found in professional cinemas - a home theatre version is unlikely to become available due to the widespread adoption of Dolby Digital 5.1 and its DTS rival. The Sony system is an eight channel (7.1) format using multiple front speakers to create a clear, smooth-flowing soundstage around the screen, ideal for larger theatres. The eight channels are divided into left, centre-left, centre, right-centre, right, rear surround left, rear surround right and a separate sub-woofer channel.
